The Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton after her time in the Crimean War. She saw what had happened at the hospitals and she didn’t want to see that happen here in the United States. She created the first chapter in 1881 and was the first president. She served for twenty-three years.

The Red Cross is a humanitarian group that provides assistance in the United States. It also helps in times of domestic disaster. They also offer help to the needy in the community, help communications between service members and their families. They also collect, process, and distribute blood and blood products when needed.

They offer educational programs on preparedness, health and safety. The also offer international relief.
